Originally founded in 1921, the company known today as Mitsubishi Electric has almost 100 years of experience in providing reliable, high-quality products to both corporate clients and general consumers all over the world.
In 2007, a dedicated Heating Department was introduced to offer the revolutionary Ecodan air source heat pump system to the UK’s housing sector. Mitsubishi Electric’s manufacturing facility in Livingston, Scotland produces Ecodan for the UK and European markets. This low carbon, efficient*, residential heating system is ideal for Britain’s temperate climate and its introduction to the market is an integral part of the company’s Green Gateway Initiative, which asks all of us to question the energy we use in our built environment to find ways of reducing consumption and minimising carbon emissions.
The Ecodan air source heat pump system harvests renewable, low grade energy from the outdoor air and upgrades this into useful heat to supply a home with hot water and heating. For every 1kW of electricity fed into an Ecodan heat pump unit (i.e.the outdoor part of the Ecodan heating system), you could get at least 3kW of heating energy. The overall system efficiency and energy savings will depend on the comparison with your current heating system, satisfactory system design and installation, and operational settings i.e. how you use the heating system.
